Command Line Utility for Email Using Notes Mail?

Author: Will
Date: Sep 22, 2008 10:01

We have servers that for reasons of a firewall restriction cannot reach the
mail server by SMTP, but can reach the Lotus Notes server. Is there a
command line utility that would let us send SMTP mail using Notes mail
through the normal Notes protocols on port 1352? We are using Notes
5.1x.

  Shared Department Address Book

Author: Al
Date: Sep 22, 2008 02:41

I have created department address book nsf for common groups and put
it on the common server (not notes server) to share. But Notes will
not let me add it to the mail address list in Preferences as it is not
on my c: drive under 'data'.

We can not add or update common groups because everything is
outsourced and costs each time a change is made.

Is there a way for several people to use this common address book
without it being put on the Notes server? Maybe an agent that copies
the groups to each persons local address book on startup or a way to
fool notes into looking at the nsf file on the server.

All I want to do is have a shares set of group email addresses than
each of the team can use or update, but without using the notes server.

good explanation of domino password strength

Author: Jim Cooke
Date: Sep 19, 2008 10:56

I am trying to figure out how to calculate password strength and I am
finding the published explanations are incomprehensible.
In the most detailed explanation, 'distribution' is mentioned without
explaning how to calculate it, and in another place detrimental effect of
dictionary words in a password is not clear. Does anyone have an
understandable explanation of domino password strength?

Thanks,
Jim

  Message Forwarding

Author: emblack
Date: Sep 16, 2008 15:00

We are currently running Lotus Domino Server version #.#. We will be
migrating to Microsoft Exchange in the near future. Both are up and
running on separate domains for testing purposes. Lotus is running on
abc.com and Exchange is running on abc.biz. We would like to set up a
rule to forward all email that comes in to abc.com that it forwards to
abc.biz. The difficult part is, we want to configure the system so
that when we reply to an email from the abc.biz that it routes back
through the Lotus server so that it appears to the recipient to come
from abc.com, not abc.biz. Our abc.biz domain is not public and is for
testing purposes only so we want all email to appear to come from
abc.com even if it is truly being sent from Exchange on the abc.biz
domain.

Just to be sure I'm clear, here is an example:

message sent to user@abc.com (Lotus) is forwarded to user@abc.biz
(Exchange). User@abc.biz replies to email. Message is routed through
abc.com domain so that recipient sees email is replied to from
user@abc.com, not abc.biz

Is this even possible to do and if so, any advice would be greatly
appreciated.

Domino 7.0.3 - Compact command queued

Author: Matt Fries
Date: Sep 11, 2008 15:42

It seems Domino has been playing a joke on me, and has been queueing my
requests to compact mail databases instead of actually compacting them.

I found a notes.ini variable that I can set to make future compacts
happen immediately, but what about the queued ones? Updall is supposed
to take care of these, but it doesn't seem to.

Does anyone know where this queue is located, how I can view what
activities are in it, and how I can force updall to execute the commands
on my mark?

Re: Notes delivers mail to firstname@domain.com

This will work as long as you only have one Kevin in your
organization. If another one starts then the mails will be held as
dead in mail.box on the server because "name not unique". I
recommend to change the configuration document for the server. Check
under Router/SMTP, Restrictions and Control, SMTP Inbound Control.
Enable the value "Verify that local domain recipients exists in the
Domino Driectory".

I am assuming you are running version 6 or higher.

  Notes delivers mail to firstname@domain.com

Author: Matt Fries
Date: Sep 10, 2008 09:34

We have Lotus Domino 7.0.3, and one of our users started to get some UCE
from various locations. All of our Lotus Notes Users receive mail as
"Firstname_Lastname@domain.com". This one user is getting the emails
that are just addressed to "Firstname@domain.com".

The user's name is Kevin O'Keefe (note the apostrophe). In his person
document in the NAB, he has 2 usernames:

Kevin O'Keefe/org
Kevin O'Keefe

There is nothing under Alternate name, and the short name only contains
KO'Keefe.

I figure there must be some configuration option that would allow users
to receive email by their first name only, but I have no idea where it
would be located, or what it would be called. Does anyone have any idea?

Thanks.

Re: Agent starts but doesnÂ’t execute LotusScript code.

Again,

Call acl.AddRole( "TEMPROLE" )
acl.InternetLevel = 4
Call acl.Save

this code just adds new role but doesn't update InternetLevel if it's
being run on server.
If you run this code localy from the agents list it works fine.

So maybe there is some InternetLevel restrictions on Domino server to
change/update this specific option?
Who knows?

Thanks
Vlad
