She might be happier with a real gps for geocaching... program where you
are going as waypoints and go... not a big need for wireless internet...
I'm very happy with my garmin Vista HCx and Cx.
Just pop in a microsd card with a map on it and go...

You mean my statement ripping on yet another craigslist-type that wants a
good AND cheap laptop and really doesn't want to pay anything because
they're going to use it for something stupid to start with?

Heh, I dunno even how you would or could use a laptop as a GPSr. It
certainly would make it a bit difficult in some of the terrain
situations you encounter.
What I am talking about is to go paperless; i.e., being able to store
data like maps and stuff on a laptop (not a PDA), as well as waypoint
information from geocaching.com, and to be able to use GSAK to work
with these .gpx files as we travel about.
