But that is not a new phenomenum. I read an article one time where back
in the 70's the U.S. military did a study and discovered to their horror
that the US could not win a war without Japan's help. Japanese products
had taken over many markets including electronics. That was when Silicon
Valley was created.

There was even a short time when many goods were manufactured in Taiwan.

Both these situations are no different than today where many products
are made in China. The standard of living has dropped significantly and
the major difference between the 80's and now is NAFTA.
