Although the headline of the June 8th article in the Daily Times of
Pakistan read “Pakistan to ask EU to amend laws on freedom of
expression,” the request from high-level government officials was in
reality a threat. The six-person Pakistani delegation was set to
deliver a warning that unless blasphemy against Islam stopped,
terrorist attacks against European assets could escalate. Their cited
example was the suicide bomb attack this June 2 on the Danish Embassy
in Pakistan in which eight people died and 27 were injured as a result
of possible renewed backlash to the 2005 publication of 12 editorial
cartoons depicting the Islamic prophet Mohammed.

Islamabad informed the European Union countries that the backlash to
perceived insults to the “religion of peace” could jeopardize “inter-
religious harmony” and result in uncontrollable attacks on other
diplomatic missions abroad. A high-level delegation representing the
Pakistani government was to travel to Brussels to further warn EU
officials of the liabilities of free expression.

This apocryphal grandstanding, in which Islamabad seeks to eradicate
free speech and reclassify it as an offensive hate crime, is part and
parcel of the insidious Islamic effort to establish a worldwide...

OTTAWA – A new poll suggests the federal Conservatives have lost key
support amongst women, Quebecers and Ontario voters. The Canadian
Press Harris-Decima survey indicates the Tories and Liberals are tied
at about 31 per cent of national support.

The telephone poll of just over 1,000 people suggests the Tory
government lost ground with strategic groups during the last session
of Parliament.

The poll suggests Liberal support among women living in cities has
increased to 10 per cent from five since December.

In Quebec, the poll suggests Tories lost a 15-point lead with voters
who say they're neither federalist nor separatist – and are now tied
with the Liberals.

And in Ontario, it indicates Conservative support has dipped outside
the greater Toronto area and especially in the 613 area code.

Back in my pro-choice days, I read that in certain ancient societies it was
common for parents to abandon unwanted newborns, leaving them to die of
exposure. I found these stories to be as perplexing as they were horrifying.
How could this happen? I could never understand how entire cultures could
buy into something so obviously terrible, how something that modern society
understands to be an unthinkable evil could be widely accepted among large
groups of people.

A southern Ontario woman who suffered a serious stroke became Canada's first
confirmed case of Foreign-Accent Syndrome, after she developed a
Newfoundland accent.

state employees. As in: "Thank God It's Thursday."

In a yearlong experiment aimed at reducing the state's energy costs
and commuters' gasoline expenses, Utah is about to become the first
state to switch to a four-day workweek for thousands of government
employees.

They will put in 10-hour days, Monday through Thursday, and have
Fridays off, freeing them to golf, shop, spend time with the kids or
do anything else that strikes their fancy. They will get paid the same

Once the public discover that all they need to do is add used tin cans
to the sea and it will grow enough algae to cure global warming as
well as feed 100 billion people all at NIL cost
