Global Warming from the horse's mouth

Author: Roedy Green
Date: May 1, 2008 23:53

I got to chat with two Nobel prize winning climate scientists (Andrew
Weaver and Werner Kurz) tonight at a lecture the University of
Victoria. They said they will post their presentations on the web.
When they do I will point you to them.

The big news is there is only one policy that does not lead to
disaster. That is ZERO emissions. Further we have to do it before we
humans emit another 450 gigatonnes of carbon. Roughly speaking we
have to get to zero by 2050.

“You do not have to change: survival is not mandatory.”
~ W. (William) Edwards Deming, on Overcoming Resistance to Change

We have already emitted huge volumes of CO2 that will continue to
warm the earth further, even if we stop putting out any more at all.
It is too late to stop some very nasty stuff from happening. All we
can do now in reduce how nasty things will get.

Every year we put out more CO2 than the earth can absorb naturally in
about 422 years.

There has been a 10%% drop in the number of farmers in the past five
years, the figures released by the Australia Bureau of Statistics
revealed.

Australia is presently in the grip of the what's known locally as the
"Big Dry" - the worst drought in a century.

The figures reveal its impact on the nation's farming communities.

Why do you blame'right wing governments" when StatsCan clearly states that
the drop is between 1980 and 2005.
There was a very Liberal government in power for the majority of those
years.

Iron Hypothesis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jump to: navigation, search

The Iron Hypothesis was formulated by oceanographer John Martin, based
on theories by Joseph Hart and first tested in 1993 and may be a long
term solution to the rapid production of anthropogenic carbon dioxide.
In 1988, Nature magazine published the results of Martin's experiments
as well as his speculations on climate change [1.].

Certain areas of the oceans have high levels of plant nutrients, such
as nitrates, phosphates and carbonic acid. However, the phytoplankton
does not grow as strongly as it should, given the plentiful supply...

Eastern Canadian City Flooded Amid Rains and Spring Thaw:- Another Harbinger of the End of the Interglacial Period

SHAKE AND BLOW

Eastern Canadian city flooded amid rains and spring thaw

Ottawa (AFP) May 1, 2008
Hundreds of homes were flooded Thursday in eastern Canada, where the
rising waters of the St. John River forced power cuts and the closure
of most provincial government buildings, officials said.

In Fredericton, the capital of New Brunswick province, water levels
reached 8.28 meters (27.1 feet), more than two meters above the flood
stage and nearing a record 8.63 meters set in 1973.

Officials blamed torrential rains and a spring thaw in the north of
the province of the largest snow pack in the region's history.

www.terradaily.com/reports/Eastern_Canadian_city_flooded_amid_rains_and_spring_thaw_999...

In Fredericton, water levels climbed more than one meter in the last
24 hours, forcing the closing of the legislature, city hall,
courthouse and schools, as well as some 50 roads.

As a precaution, electricity for 390 homes was also shut off.

PD James: Political correctness ruining society
Last Updated: 2:57AM BST 02/05/2008
Modern life is bedevilled by political correctness, PD James, the
crime author, said last night.

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1918876/PD-James-Political-correctness-ruining-society...

There was a growing risk that Britons would live in "ghettos" and
experience little contact with other people, she said in a speech on
policing in the 21st century.

Baroness James of Holland Park, who is best known for creating the
detective Adam Dalgliesh, told an audience in the Palace of
Westminster: "Our society is now more fractured than I, in my long
life, have ever known it.

"Increasingly there is a risk that we live in ghettos with our own
kind, with a strong commitment to our local community but little
contact with those outside it.

"Mutual respect and understanding and recognition of our common
humanity cannot be nurtured in isolation. And in our relationships we
are bedevilled by the cult of political correctness."

Al Gore's Fascist Thugs Force Global Warming Skeptic Scientists To Recant!

http://www.desmogblog.com/500-scientists-with-documented-doubts-about-the-
heartland-institute

Dozens of scientists are demanding that their names be removed from a
widely distributed Heartland Institute article entitled 500 Scientists
with Documented Doubts of Man-Made Global Warming Scares.

The article, by Hudson Institute director and Heartland "Senior
Fellow" Dennis T. Avery (inset), purports to list scientists whose
work contradicts the overwhelming scientific agreement that
human-induced climate change is endangering the world as we know it.

DeSmogBlog manager Kevin Grandia emailed 122 of the scientists
yesterday afternoon, calling their attention to the list. So far - in
less than 24 hours - three dozen of those scientists had responded in
outrage, denying that their research supports Avery's conclusions and
demanding that their names be removed.

This is a brief taste of some of the responses that have been copied
to the DeSmogBlog so

I am horrified to find my name on such a list. I have spent the last
20 years arguing the opposite."
