Is anyone surprised? The ability of people to turn their conscious off
when it come to money is pretty elaborate. Its especially easy to do
when the bad thing you are making money from is not right in front of
you. The drug dealer sees the damage he is promoting and cannot pretend
otherwise, but the banker who makes money from drug money deposited in
his bank can pretend that he is not involved in that destruction. When
I was younger I used to wonder how tobacco farmers et al. could look
themselves in the mirror while they shaved, but the ways in which the
human mind can refuse to see things is very nearly endless.
