Sorry, Chuck, that freedom of speech argument only goes so far.
He called the Rutger's women's basketball team "a bunch of nappy headed ho's"
and that has crossed the line for a lot of people.
He likes to push the envelope but this time his envelope done fell off the
table.
And it's Richard Pryor, by the way . . .

PLEASE read my post again Dick, did I mention anything at all about freedom
of speech? If I did, I sure cannot find it. Perhaps you read someone else's
response and thought I said it. That must be what happened, because I have
no idea what you're talking about. chuck

I say yank HIS ASS OFF of the air, but only if you're willing to yank all
the rappers records off the shelves and airwaves who use the same offensive
language. It has to be (or should be) both ways, or not at all Ricky (and Mr
Sharpton). I am not sure what they should do these politicians who go out of
their way to paint our war heroes like Kerry as unpatriotic anti-Americans
simply because they want to win elections. Or to people such as Bill
O'Reilly who claimed that those boys who were kidnapped and molested were
willing participants. Where was all the outrage then? BTW, Imus is a
registered gun totin' Republican--so it seems the right has themselves some
serious issues when it comes to watching what they say--just because a
rapper can say it over and over doesn't mean that they...

Imus was talking about a bunch of proud kids who worked very hard to do what
they're doing. But all Imus sees is that they're black, and then wraps it in
a stereotype. If he were talking about your kids you'd be pretty pissed
Imus shows himself to be a shallow man, and there's no "deeper" or
"redeeming" context to what he said.

Proud kids or not he should not be calling anyone those names (there are
better ways to get laughs), but his head shouldn't roll if the rappers and
record companies who profit from putting that same sort of shit to music get
to keep their jobs. There really isn't all that much difference, except the
hard core rappers usually look like they have to go to the toilet real bad
when they're talking their trash. Where's Brother Al Sharpton's outrage over
that crap? Rev Jackson, how about you? I like the ideal of equal justice
instead of appeasing those screaming the loudest at any given moment.
Consumers can let their feelings be known by changing the station and not
supporting advertisers. I don't need lynch mob justice for over the top
super bad taste, no matter who it is, Snoop Dog or...

I think is 100%% freedom of speech and I don't know who Imus is besides a
radio or TV guy but he shoulda told them to stick it - If he felt human he
could apologize to the Rutgers women & parents but that is ALL. I like
women's BB and the Rutgers team & coach Vivian Stringer but caring what a 67
year old man said should not bother them. If Sharpton & Jesse REALLY cared
they would be calling for the boycott of rap music which says the same thing
& worse to a much larger and more impressionable audience. It's total
self-righteous BS from the git-go. I wish he would told them to stick it.
I don't believe in degrading college athletes white, black, male or female
they work hard especially to play in a Championship even but for folks like
shapton, jackson to act like they care when XM radio has a rap station is
100%% total BS -
Imus has as much right as anyone to 'Freedom of Speech'
It's so absurd it's laughable

Let's cut to the real chase. Imus probably did not attempt to make an
apology, whether meaningful or not, because of Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson
having such strong reactions and stances. He was more than likely pressured
into the spot by sponsors threatening to withdraw from their support of the
program. The station managers want him to be controversal; that's what draws
his audience. But the money speaks volumes to the managers, not what critics
are saying.
Personally, I could care less about Imus. He statements were completely
stupid and offensive. But truth be told, Sharpton and Jackson just sit,
waiting and drooling for these type of remarks so they can jump all over
them for their own publicity.
