Wasn't there some kind of lawsuit brought against Ackroyd and Belushi or
producers making the Blues Brothers movie?
I never did quite catch what that was all about. Was it an infringement sort
of thing or ..... ????

Hey, I hope that me calling them a parody act wasn't taken as a
slight...it's
just sort of what they were, as far as Ackroyd and Belushi go. The "band"
behind
them, hell, top drawer all the way down the line, imo. You have to give the
"Brothers" that much credit, for having the snap to know the difference, and
hire the best.

One of my faves too....that guitar player, man, talk about one of the under-appreciated / under-rated of time (something Pauling, I just got through driving to Tulsa and back, and my mind is sort of toasty). On 2nd thought, you're right, they do have a more varied sound than most of those in that sub genre.
As producer of Return Of The Funky Worm I went out of my way to recommend some songs (and placement on the disc) that would break up any chance of things getting too familiar in the course of listening to the CD--that was made easy by the fact that those cats play so many styles so well. http://tinyurl.com/2jqoqf A lot of bands, well, not so much. I'll have to give a hat tip to Pat Boyack too, he's put out a couple whose sound form one track to the next is much varied. Hash Brown"s T Is For Texas falls in there too.

Not surprised. The Funk and Soul is big with the young'ins these days. You
can't even find a Wah-Wah for sale on this side of town.

I have to disagree with this. I can listen to the entire Five Royales catalogue in a row.
Although they do have some tunes that sound alike, for the most part their songs are quite different
from one another.
And have I ever mentioned on here that they are my favorite group of all time?

Well, the Blues Bros. were a parody act, but on their live album they credited the the originators of much of the material. Floyd Dixon, Junior Wells, Wayne Cochran and Downchild Blues Band come to mind...(They didn't mention that Randy Newman penned "Guilty", though..)

If, as some claim, it is true that the blues parody band the Blues Brothers
brought folks into the blues fold -- I guess some of us will also be led to
wonder (even if it is but for a short moment) did Mickey Mouse do the same?

My show # 482. This weeks Saturday Blue Plate Special was "Mother Dear" blues. Also, topical blues about letters and postage related subjects to go with the price increase on Monday. The opening dish was inspired by the onset of spring, finally... the return of the birds, spring planting, rebirth, etc.Papajoe (David Carrigan)Blues Cafe' 101 CAC WWSPReserve Street UWSP
