http://www-saps.plantsci.cam.ac.uk/trees/index.htm works on leaf
shape for common British trees and shrubs - it also works for winter
twigs without leaves. Does, however, need a person to look at the
leaves and decide which category they fit into.

Hello,

I am an Art Center College of Design student and I am working on an info
graphics piece that is similar to what you posted online. I work in
Interactive design and am interested in a software driven device that can
visually identify plants by leaf shape.

Have you made any progress? If so, is there any additional info you can
email me. I am very interested in this subject.

I would be willing to exchange ideas with you if you are interested.

My name is Ryan and I am in Southern California.

Please let me know soon, so I can implement it into my project over next
month.

Thanks.

  extraction of mtDNA

Author: Higbie, Sarah
Date: Feb 26, 2008 06:23

Hello All,

I am wondering if anyone has any tips for isolating quality
mitochondrial DNA from leaves. We have tried a few protocols (Triboush
et al. 1998. Plant Mol Biol Rep 16: 183-189; Dellaporta et al. 1983.
Plant Mol Biol rep 1:19-21; Scotti et al. 2001. Plant Mol Biol Rep
19:67a-67h) with limited success. We will be using the mtDNA with PCR.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

  Starch Picture

Author: David Walker
Date: Feb 26, 2008 00:45

Recently I was attempting to sort out the accumulated rubbish in my office
in the way that you do when you come to feel that, if you don¹t drink your
best wine soon, you might never get the chance. By chance I came across a
photograph of an ancient (ca 1980) starch picture that posed a question to
students who got to see it. The picture was formed in starch in a
ŒGeranium¹ (i.e Pelargonium) leaf by illuminating through a negative in a
slide projector. The negative itself comprised a Beardsley print on which
was superimposed the question. I couldn¹t bring myself to bin it without
sharing it, so for anyone who is interested, it can now be downloaded (and
used) from
