Heirloom Tomato and Pepper Plants, San Jose

Long's Drugs at Prospect, a local pharmacy to me, is selling 4"
heirloom tomatoes and multiple pepper plants for $1.29 each.
The plants look GREAT! I picked up twenty (five beefsteak, five
Little Girl, 2 each Serrano, Jalapeno, Anaheim, Sweet Bell,
Pasilla) plants. I noticed there are squash, a few corn, and
one or two other vegetables I wasn't familiar with -- a Purple
"Something."

If you're looking to expand your tomato and pepper gardens or
enhance your plots, this is a good [and reasonably cheap]
source.

Not a bad price. I was rather impressed with the Petaluma OSH
though...they had 6 packs for $2.29. Not a big selection and many were
missing their variety tags. Most of the tomatoes were tasteless things
like Early Girl but they had a Cherokee (I think that was it, something
heirloom) and some paste tomatoes too. I got those and a cherry. I
also found thai peppers and Japanese eggplant.

Now I just have to find my circular saw so I can cut the wood to build
the extra raised garden bed to put them all in :-)

I saw similar items at the Prospect OSH, too, but many were
limp or anemic (or whatever super-light-green plants are
called). I passed on them which is why I hit Longs.

I wonder if Rite-Aid still runs concurrent sales on their
nursery section?

Totally understandable. The ones I got were nice and healthy at least.

[Petaluma OSH Choices]

I was in Cupertino's Home Despot and saw a very nice selection
of healthy plants, too. I'm not sure they were worth $2.98 to
$6.29 but they did look full, ready to bloom (or blooming on
several of the tomato choices), and most were a nice
dark-green. Go figure.
