Main problems is temp is dependant on depth.

Where were you diving to see 11 deg?? I dived the Coogee and
the J-4 on Saturday -- around 13.5deg C on both. It's not a
lot, but 2 degrees is 2 degrees.
I've noticed that inside Port Phillip Bay, at the places that
I've done shore dives, the temperatures are warmer in summer
and colder in winter. But, when you think about it, this makes
sense, since the bay is so shallow -- there's less mass of
water to hold a constant temperature, and theres a large
surface area in contact with the air.

Well we were diving "Popes Eye' off Portsea, and under the pier as
well...both reading 11deg C on my computer...though the pier read 13deg, for
the first few minutes in approx 3m water...then down to 11deg, once we move
along down to a max of only 4.5m..
I'm just using that dive as a yard stick now, so i can gauge when to dive
again.
When I dived (in 11deg c) I was wearing a Pinnacle ( aka Paragon ) 7/7mm
Elastiprene wetsuit ( w/ neck, wrist, and ankle seals ), Mares Trilastic 5/3
hood, dive sox, Trilastic 5/3 booties and Apollo 2-3mm gloves )...
I think i could bare it if it was even a few degrees warmer, if I added a
thermo vest, and thicker gloves... Plus I've ordered another hood, as my
current hood is probably a size too big... so wasn't really fitting snuggly
around my neck ( inside the wetsuit), so may have been effecting the
seal..making me a tad colder too..
P.S. anyone here wanting a bargin on a virtually brand new mares Trilastic
Hood ( w/ face seal & bib ) size Large...let me know ;).
cheers,
Hi-Soft

OK, that makes sense -- inside the bay and shallow water.

All good info Don..thanks again..
Funny you mentioned that about not tucking the hood in the with a neck
seal...as I thought exactly that...but eveyone seemed to advise tucking it
in...pfft.. Alternately...I was thinking of using the large hood, and
trimming off the bib section...then wearing it over the neck of the suit....
so i guess I have a few options to experiment with now...
Also, funny about the glove thickness too....as i agree totally about the
dexterity vs cold hands.... actually the new gloves i'm getting are only 1mm
thicker on the back of the hands (3/2mm) compared to my current Apollo's..
so should be ok...
My buddy wears these crazy 5mm gloves... I get claustrophobic just trying
them on...eek..!
cheers,
Hi-Soft

Hi-Soft, I get a pretty poor seal at the neck in the same sort of suit -
especially when compared to my older style 'semi-dry' with zip across the
chest and full neck seal. I find I'm much warmer with the hood tucked in. I
actually had to buy a hood with full flaps after I got the suit as the old
head-neck hood wasn't doing it for me anymore.
For Melb winter diving the other half swears by her newly acquired fleecy
socks, and says they make a world of difference, I am yet to try some
Bay temps, I'd say abour 9-19C, with variations as mentioned, although I
found 8 at Dragon's Lair just outside the heads one August about 5 years
back.
Cheers
