Mt Beauty BPL trial update
The substantial interference resulting from a trial of Broadband over Power
Lines in Mt Beauty in north-east Victoria continues to be experienced by at
least two radio operators.
In addition to Ian Paul VK3FIOP now VK3LJJ, a CB radio operator is plagued
with the interference. He too has so far been unable to get the BPL
operator SP Ausnet to solve the problem.
The CBer wants to become a radio amateur and shares Ian VK3LJJ's
disappointment at the loss of HF radio communications.
The evidence is stacking up against this BPL trial. The latest is an
observations report by a former ACMA BPL Project Team Manager, Peter Young,
who reports interference on five amateur bands, 27MHz CB band and the
adjacent Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) band.
He found that the BPL emissions, in addition to amateur radio and CB radio,
create a potential for severe interference to medical alert alarm devices,
some remote control devices such as door openers, cordless telephones and
radio controlled model aircraft.

Is there anything radio operators can do to knockout BPL
e.g. high power broardcasts near a critical point on the BPL network.

From at least two operators! Bwa ha ha.
This just demonstrates how small and self interested the anti BPL lobby
really is.
Anyway it is a lost cause, get over it. You can't stand in the way of
progress.

Don't bet on it moron, what customer is going to accept an unreliable
service that keeps crashing due to legitimate use of the radio spectrum?

No it doesn't come anywhere near the realities , it does show how few
mention it HERE.

Well, why not set up a HF packet BBS running at 300 bd and link it to
the other VK7 local BBS's. That way it can run all day forwarding
7+ bulletins and the interference to BPL would be totally random on a
24 hour basis.

Rudy sells most of them overseas. I met him in Dayton at the Hamvention
last year, he attends regularly. The Americans love those amps.
