(Version 3.0.1
on 29 July 2008)
'
The First Law Of Economics, is:
People desire and enjoy to do a job of value they can be
proud of.
(Individual persons have the desire and enthusiasm or joy,
to undertake something that is of value now or in the
future, to their fellows of Mankind.)
I have elaborated that in the HRI note

Are Not Objects.' *(1)

In a series of posts I'm going to explore some of the key issues in
the comparative feasibility of energy sourced from wind and from coal.
Let me say at the outset:
I do not propose that wind can replace all baseload power everywhere,
nor even replace most of it in most places. Like many energy sources
(including coal, interestingly) wind doesn't work everywhere. It is
quite site specific. It is, by definition limited to where good and
predictable wind resources exist, otherwise the economics of the
project impose too great a burden on the community.
I am however, rather tired of the oft-repeated claims that wind cannot
play any significant role in contemporary industrial grids on the
basis because it is an 'intermittent' source. It is intermittent, but
this is not a critical defect, as there are a number of options for
overcoming this weakness that render wind a perfectly viable option in
many settings.

Ebay has been spruiking how safe and secure their PayPal system is with the
ability to refund money to those who are ripped off after paying for
products they don't recieve.
Ebay wanted to make Australia the first test case by FORCING all sales to go
through the PayPal system, but the ACCC has put this move on hold saying
it's anti-competitive(sellers must pay for the benefit of recieiving paypal
payments)
Now ebay has it's time to shine with thousands and thousands of ebay users
being ripped off by a ebay company that has gone tits up yet continued to
advertise and sell products one ebay without ever sending the merchandise
for almost 3 months.
Will paypal refund the million or so dollars stolen from these punters? My
guess is no.

The 21st century Pardoners Tale: A Complete Comparison Between
Indulgences And Carbon Credits
Dr. Tim Ball
July 28 2008
A TELLING QUOTE: Before the company collapsed under the weight of
financial scandal, Enron under CEO Ken Lay was a key proponent of the
cap-and-trade idea
The Pardoner, a seller of indulgences, is a complete and shameless rogue
Geoffrey Chaucer (c.1342 - 1400) is among the giants of English
literature recognized for his perceptive and realistic stories about
human nature. He did this by creating individual characters who were a
broad representation of groups of people. Like Shakespeare, he produced
stories that are instantly recognizable at any time in history and in
any society. In his most famous work, The Canterbury Tales he
introduces a number of characters traveling together on a pilgrimage. He
does this with what Paul Johnson describes as, " a lethal combination of
satire, irony, and sarcasm."

Pickens tries to shame Americans because, "America uses a lot of oil ...
That's 25 percent of the world's oil demand, used by just 4 percent of
the world population."
Some might think these figures make us sound greedy and wasteful.
But what Pickens omitted to mention is that the size of the U.S. economy
in 2007 was about $13.8 trillion and the size of the global economy was
$54.3 trillion.
This means that the U.S. economy represents about 25.4 percent of the
global economy.
So what's the problem if a nation that produces 25 percent of the
world's goods and services needs 25 percent of the world's oil output?
Would he prefer that we shrink our economy by 84 percent to match our
share of world population?

Miranda Devine
July 26 2008
QUOTE: "Although the complainants disagreed with the points made by the
contributors in the programme, they did not suggest that the overall
statements about climate models were factually inaccurate."
QUOTE: Ofcom nitpicked as hard as it could and Swindle emerged virtually
unscathed. I wonder how a Four Corners episode would fare under such
scrutiny.
There is something odd about the ferocious amount of energy expended
suppressing any dissent from orthodoxy on climate change. After all, the
climate cataclysmists have won the war of public opinion - for now, at
least - with polls, business, media and Government enthusiastically on
board.
So, if their case is so good, why try so fervently to extinguish other
points of view? There is a disturbingly religious zeal in the attempts
to silence critics and portray them as the moral equivalent of holocaust
deniers.

Only if you don't pay tax on interest. If you work and pay tax, 1.5%% loss.
