"Most of our street crime comes from the Afghanistan drug industry"
Michael Scheuer,
a former CIA analyst and author of "Imperial Hubris: Why the West Is
Losing the War on Terror" and "Through Our Enemies' Eyes: Osama bin
Laden, Radical Islam, and the Future of America" (Potomac), has been
critical of the administration's efforts to capture bin Laden, and
says the newly-released video shows an al Qaeda leader taunting the
U.S. for failing to catch him.
"It's a terrible business for me because I have been a lifelong
Republican and I feel heretical every time I open my mouth, but I
don't know what else to do." Michael Scheuer
Imperial Hubris

U.S. had vast expertise on Afghanistan, but failed to use it after
9/11. Lessons from the Soviet war in Afghanistan available, but
unused. By Sept. 1, 2001, the Afghan Northern Alliance was a defeated
force, and after the assassination of Ahmed Shah Masood on Sept. 9,
certainly not the basis of a national government. Masood represented
only "a small subset of the country's Tajik minority". The Karzai
régime and its allies are hopelessly unrepresentative. U.S. ignored
key Islamic commanders. The Karzai government is doomed.
Seven truths about Afghans ignored by U.S.:
(1) only Pashtuns rule durably
(2) the U.S. backed Westernized Afghans, not the "Muslim tribal
xenophobes" who matter
(3) Afghans can't be controlled by money
(4) strong central governments, like the one Karzai is seeking, cause
war in Afghanistan
(5) Afghanistan is a cauldron of international tensions
(6) Pakistan's national security depends on an Islamist, Pashtun-
dominated régime
(7) an Islamic régime in Kabul is inevitable

Why are there no local reports on the opium - poppy cultivation,
morphine and heroin manufacturing in Afghanistan?
You might want to check out the Santa Barbara News-Press* for their up
to date information on the critical problems with Afghanistan's opium
crop and narco-trafficing . Of special interest to the Laura
Schlessinger family. (Deryk Schlessinger and Lewis Bishop).

Our pornography?
Michael Scheuer: "Our pornography, or because I have a draft beer
after work on Friday. People have a hard time believing that people
are going to blow themselves up for that, but Americans accept it from
their president and from their leaders.
I think that if you matched the real motivation - which I believe is
the impact of our foreign policy in the Muslim world - with the
assessment that the threat is growing, I think that people can better
understand that
When Mr. [Ron] Paul tried to raise that in the [GOP] debate in South
Carolina, [Rudy] Giuliani suggested that any contention that we were
responsible for any of this motivation of the enemy was unpatriotic.
I think that's where we are. Quite frankly, if these guys were
attacking us because they hated our elections they would barely be a
lethal nuisance. No one is going to blow themselves up because we have
early primaries in Iowa."

The Poppy Jihad and failed eradication policy
What's on Tonight?

8 P.M. (CNN) NARCO STATE In this "CNN: Special Investigations Unit"
documentary, Anderson Cooper traces the opium journey from poppy
flower to addiction and examines how the drug is pushing Afghanistan
into crisis.
CNN NARCO STATE:
A rather pale special Investigation doc with a few dramatic visuals.
Anderson sidetracks to Pakistan border and the word "terrorists", as
if that is even the main heroin/opium route to the west. Most everyone
knows in 2001 Afghanistan had remarkably less poppy produce. It was
the years after NATO that the radical changes could take over. The
Osama quest was an opportunity missed. How long has it been since
anyone thought Osama was in Afghanistan? He was never known to be in
the south, where the poppies flourish and blood pours viciously in
collateral damage and "friendly fire". Anderson points to the Mexican/
U.S. border as the main trafficing. Canada and U.K. write that the
main recipient of Afghan heroin goes to Canada. Don't Americans want
the truth? Or do we need more misinformation to support more fence and
prison contractors?
Eradicating opium poppies has been a key pillar of U.S. policy in
Afghanistan since 2004, said Doug Wankel, director of the U.S. Counter-
Narcotics Task Force in Afghanistan. Former experience with failed
drug war in Central America and Southeast Asia. We are to believe his
spin? If history repeats: 'White lies' about the drug war

Britain is protecting the biggest heroin crop of all time
By CRAIG MURRAY
http://www.mailonsunday.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=469983&in_page_id...=
"My knowledge of all this comes from my time as British Ambassador in
neighbouring Uzbekistan from 2002 until 2004. I stood at the
Friendship Bridge at Termez in 2003 and watched the Jeeps with blacked-
out windows bringing the heroin through from Afghanistan, en route to
Europe." FORMER BRITISH AMBASSADOR IN UZBEKISTAN
"Our economic achievement in Afghanistan goes well beyond the simple
production of raw opium. In fact Afghanistan no longer exports much
raw opium at all. It has succeeded in what our international aid
efforts urge every developing country to do. Afghanistan has gone into
manufacturing and 'value-added' operations.
It now exports not opium, but heroin. Opium is converted into heroin
on an industrial scale, not in kitchens but in factories. Millions of
gallons of the chemicals needed for this process are shipped into
Afghanistan by tanker. The tankers and bulk opium lorries on the way
to the factories share the roads, improved by American aid, with Nato
troops.
How can this have happened, and on this scale? The answer is simple.
The four largest players in the heroin business are all senior members
of the Afghan government - the government that our soldiers are
fighting and dying to protect.
When we attacked Afghanistan, America bombed from the air while the
CIA paid, armed and equipped the dispirited warlord drug barons -
especially those grouped in the Northern Alliance - to do the ground
occupation. We bombed the Taliban and their allies into submission,
while the warlords moved in to claim the spoils. Then we made them
ministers." CRAIG MURRAY
"Yet I could not persuade my country to do anything about it.
Alexander Litvinenko - the former agent of the KGB, now the FSB, who
died in London last November after being poisoned with polonium 210 -
had suffered the same frustration over the same topic.
There are a number of theories as to why Litvinenko had to flee
Russia. The most popular blames his support for the theory that FSB
agents planted bombs in Russian apartment blocks to stir up anti-
Chechen feeling.
But the truth is that his discoveries about the heroin trade were what
put his life in danger. Litvinenko was working for the KGB in St
Petersburg in 2001 and 2002. He became concerned at the vast amounts
of heroin coming from Afghanistan, in particular from the fiefdom of
the (now) Head of the Afghan armed forces, General Abdul Rashid
Dostum, in north and east Afghanistan.
Dostum is an Uzbek, and the heroin passes over the Friendship Bridge
from Afghanistan to Uzbekistan, where it is taken over by President
Islam Karimov's people. It is then shipped up the railway line, in
bales of cotton, to St Petersburg and Riga." CRAIG MURRAY

. Why are many Santa Barbarans so disgusted with our local status

paper of record, the Santa Barbara News-Press, and we now get the
petty, uninformed senseless diatribes of the Laura Schlessingers and

those who don't share their bias. Their answer to local gang violence
is everything except confronting the facts of Afghanistan's heroin
