New comedy show "Salaam Cafe" a hit

Comedy on TV has been a bit light with the end
of the last Chaser series.. but there is a welcome new addition
on SBS on Wednesdays at 10pm, Salaam Cafe, a comedy show
by and about Muslims.

"Not as funny as Charlie Chaplin, but easier to hear"
- Jerusalem Post ;-)

There's Susan Carland, a feminist mum with a stud in her
tongue, Nazeem Hussain and Aamer Rahman, whose show "fear of
a Brown Planet' was winner of the best newcomer award at the
Melbourne Comedy Festival (so there is no doubt that Muslims
are funny ;-) Ahmed Imam (the son of the Mufti of Oz) Waleed
Ali, husband of Susan Carland, and Toltu Tula, who, Allah have mercy,
is difficult to drag your gaze away from..
She is a princess! 8^)

I did manage to register that she is also clever and funny..
and there were some other people on the panel saying stuff,
and making the audience laugh, but it's hard to take it all in
when you are watching a vision from the Al Hambra.

I think I understand why Shah Jahan built the Taj! B^)

Gambia gay death threat condemned

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/africa/7416536.stm

Gay rights activists have condemned Gambian President Yahya Jammeh's
threat to behead homosexuals.

Last week he told a political rally that gay people had 24 hours to
leave the country.

He promised "stricter laws than Iran" on homosexuality and said he
would "cut off the head" of any gay person found in The Gambia.

Carey Johnson of the International Gay and Lesbian Human Rights
Council said the comments were "disgraceful".

"What president Jammeh fails to realise is that there are a
significant population of Gambians who are gay, and he has no right to
ask them to leave," Mr Johnson said.

The speech was "doubly disgraceful" because The Gambia is the host
country for the African Commission on Human and People's Rights, he
said.

Mr Johnson said the speech, part of President Jammeh's 13-day tour of
the country, was an attempt to scapegoat gay people and blame them for
the country's ills.
