Really? Surely, electricity consumers have already paid?

It's worth noting that the UK has a big bill for dealing with very
early nuclear power stations. Technology has moved on a lot in the
last half-century; modern designs can produce more power more safely
for less waste; and be easier to decommission too. We should bear that
in mind when considering that we can't realistically build enough
solar/wind/geothermal capacity to meet our energy needs, and building
fossil-fuel power stations means pumping billions of tonnes of
pollutants into the air.

"Nuclear power is *now* perfectly safe.

Sure.

Why? This bald assertion is essentially a nuclear-lobby propaganda
invention. ie, a lie.

The danish & spanish are alreday producing about 20%% of their power
via just wind, and they have only gotten serious in thelast few years.
