Question re. LPG

Author: James
Date: May 3, 2008 14:29

Just wondering if anyone could tell me the approx cost to do the 10 yearly
inspection / valve replace (or whatever they do) on a car LPG tank? Looking
at buying an LPG vehicle but tank is almost out of date.

Thanks in advance

Thanks for that. I assume that sort of price would be for a tank removed
from the vehicle or is it done in situ? I can't see anyone removing &
refitting a tank as well for figure that low.

Used to be around $200, but cheaper if you remove the tank, which I believe,
has to be taken out to replace the filler valve

This raises a point - how are these ten year limits enforced? With filling
BBQ cylinders the attendant won't do it if the bottle's out of date. But
we don't have them looking inside our boots when we pull in to fill 'er
up.

I s'pose for states that have compulsory annual roadworthy check that it
could be done then, but for the rest of the country?

Not in Vic it isn't.

Your tank could be 300 years old down here and Vicroads couldn't give a
sockful of elephant shit.

There's no enforcement in Victoria. It's an owner-onus deal, and it usually
only raises it's head when a car has to be roadworthied for sale.
