Copper mate of mine down on the Sunshine Coast has just told me they are now
also trialling the TRD Aurion and everyone who drives it hates it to the
point the cops are refusing to take it out on patrol. Their claim it is too
dangerous has already been substantiated by most in this group.
As I am one of the rare ones in here to admit when I'm wrong, I certainly
had this one wrong...but only with an addendum....and that is powerful
vehicles and FWD don't mix. My experience with powerful FWD comes from
driving a 380 and I found it quite a nice car to drive, but obviously minus
the power of the TRD Aurion.
If the comments of my mate are anything to go by, the TRD will not become
part of the Highway Patrol and their choice (as drivers) at the moment is
the F6 Typhoon as it's handling is the best of all the Highway Patrol
vehicles and that includes the Monaros they had for a while. I think they
are excited about the new 300kw F6 coming out shortly.

Hi All,
Recently the airconditioner in my 2001 Astra stopped working. The
light on the switch comes on, but no cool air, and no 'load' felt (you
know, you feel the car decellerate a little when you turn it on). Up
until then it had been working OK, probably not as cool as when it was
new, but not far from it.
I rang a car airconditioner guy, and he said with that model Astra,
%%99 of the time it'll be the compressor coil, which means he'll need
to replace the entire compressor. $800 (and something) for parts,
labour, and regas.
My problem is that it never seems to be the cheaper option.... how do
I know he's not just ripping me off?
Any recommendations... is there anyway I could determine what the
problem actually is?
Thanks
Brock

You know what I'm going to mention at this point, right Dave?
Yes... the fact that you've *never* worked... not in a legitimate
capacity at least.

Are you waiting for your inheritance or what? Go get a *job* and earn
the money and emigrate once and for all.

Would like the opinions please ...
Got a TH Magna, 95,000kms. Had the timing belt changed December last
year, and a "Safety Check" a few weeks prior to a trip across the Nullabor.
Just before I'm to depart on this trip, timing belt goes - car's dead.
Dealer advises power steering drive belt had melted the timing belt
cover, and came off/broke and hit the timing belt. Timing belt's in
tact, just has a serious mark on it indicating it took a hit. This has
caused serious problems. It's taken 3 weeks to get new valves.
I mentioned that I consider them to be liable as ...
- they changed the timing belt 4 months (2,000kms) ago, and
- they did a safety check only a week before the problem
Am I grasping at straws expecting them to take at least some liability?
Get the car back in a few days after being with the dealer for 4 weeks.
Just pissed off this occurred just after the $230 safety check - but
grateful it didn't occur at say Eucla. God knows what it'll cost!
Ricky
