WWII History - RAAF Citation for Bravery

During WWII my uncle flew with 30 Squadron - Bristol Beaufighters, at one
time with "Blackjack Walker".

He was awarded the DFC but I have been unable to find any specific
information.
I did at one time find a very generic citation that said the award was for
"action against the enemy" & nothing more.

My understand was that he landed his aircraft on a beach to pickup 2 downed
airmen, while under enemy fire, and return them safely to base.
I had been told that it required exception skill to get the Beaufighter down
onto a shortish & narrow beach, pickup the 2 airmen & get the aircraft off
the beach again - all while under fire.
I cannot find any information about this event and wonder if someone out
there can assist with the whole story??

405762 Flight Lieutenant Mostyn Lloyd Morgan flew with Fred Cassidy for most
of his tour with 30 Squadron.
My apologies - I haven't as yet obtained any more information about Fred.

With thanks
Graham

Hi Coop
Pleased you had some success in getting together information for your Great
Uncle & dad.
Most of the information through AWM and National Archives is fairly general
in nature.
Even after obtaining...

Me too on both counts.

Maybe, but I think Blackjack was more of a doer than a writer. I'll never forget
seeing him give a cypress plantation a short back and sides - with a Mosquito.

I'd be up for a copy myself.

Sorry, can't reply to your original posting as it has just been automatically
deleted under my 1 day kept rule.

My uncle flew these aircraft also, dunno what squadron/s 'tho and he's passed on
so can't really help. I'll listen to his short 'life history' recording again
soon - there's a good story about shaking off a group of Japanese fighters.

I seem to recall a similar story. What was his surname?
