United Economy Seating

Family has jetted off to the US to attand a wedding. Daughter left on Sunday.
Missus today. Both United (UA840 outbound).

Daughter reported back that the seating was cramped. That doesn't bode well for
the missus. Daughter is 5'4" but the missus is 5'8". Both have/had seats in
economy. When she booked in she tried to get the best seat possible but the
missus said that the only option was a $200 upgrade to "Economy Plus".

Anyway, she's stuck down the back. And she SMS'ed me just before she had to turn
the phone off that the plane was full of "world youth pilgrims" returning home
and they're all wanting to swap seats, etc. and was trying to get the missus to
move to a less comfortable (or more uncomfortable) seat.

Just wondering. Is this common across the industry? Jamming in more seats down
the back with fuckall legroom and making a few rows for extra dough where DVT is
slightly less likely to set in?

She's doing a loop of the planet. On her way home from NY she's going UAL to
LHR, then SIN to SIN and MEL. Hopefully the 777 leg across the Atlantic is
roomier than the 744 that she's on at the moment, or that the Singapore Airlines
is a bit roomier. Otherwise this will be our last trips OS until we can afford
to do it business class at least once.

Do your homework on www.seatguru.com and/or www.seatexpert.com

I personally feel that steerage on 747s is the worst for feeling cramped.

Thanks. Yeah, found that already.

Qantas' 767s on its domestic routes aren't that flash either.

If they leave on time - QANTAS have now reached a new low in customer
satisfaction.

Have her call the ACCC. Its illegal and they will do something in the future
assuming United it still in business. They can't sell economey seats
that are smaller than normal without an extra discount.
