Back in the late 70s, there was MANS - Major Airport Needs of Sydney
study. Lots of money invested by all govts - the Feds put in most.
Wilton was quickly dismissed. Land acquisition, road upgrades for
construction traffic, major consultancies for preliminary design. This
was for Badgerys Creek. IIRC, there was even a need to go to enormous
lengths to relocate a cemetery that held the remains of people who died
with leprosy.
In today's money, maybe $1 billion was spent. I presume the work of
maybe 10 years was filed away for future reference?
