It will be very interesting if oxygen tanks do turn out to be involved
in the incident. That would make 2 extremely serious incidents at
Qantas related to pilots oxygen tanks in less than 12 months. I am
referring of course to the infamous nitrogen incident that occurred at
Melbourne airport where maintenance personell had somehow managed to
fill oxygen tanks with nitrogen. With the numerous systems involved
in a 747 it seems highly coincidental. One has to wonder if they can
do something as mind boggling stupid as put nitrogen into breathing
oxygen tanks, what else could they have done to the tanks?
Of course in the present incident if JB and co did happen to pull on
the nitrogen masks, no amount of skill on his part would have
prevented a messy outcome.
