The BBC called it a "forced landing". It would have been a lot more

Well, it would have been if the aircraft had been "crippled" as the
Daily Telegraph said, and if it had really plunged 20,000 feet, rather
than simply making a controlled descent.

If the media did a better job of reporting these things, then passengers
might be better informed and not freak out when depressurisation
incidents occur.

Sylvia.

You're thinking "holy water induced corrosion"?

Perhaps it was popemania fatigue.

Or even caused by excessive genuflexing.

Journos aren't the brightest in the academic totem pole. It's just that they
have a talent for spinning tales.

Like the annoying use of the word "experts" when they refer to people who
allegedly know something about a subject.

These 'experts' that they refer to in the corrosion thing could be simply some
aviation journo, or an office worker at Qantas who took the call and thus
speculated without having any real knowledge of the facts or the science of it.

They'll grab whatever headlines that they can get and then run with them.

I s'pose that technically it could be called that. After all, they wanted to fly
to MEL but were forced to divert to Manilla...

That is, if we want to be pedantic....
