I think I know where your coming from in your remark and in part I
am also sad to see such an organisation having its washing aired in
public.
On the other hand pleased that the oversight system for once appears
to be working before any thing more deadly occurs
Health check ups of any kind, especially if timely enough to catch any
deficiencies before they become systemic is only to the companies and
the industries benefit .
As an example I cite how in the RAN certain cultures were allowed to
progress and passed on to succeeding generations of mechanics with
the ultimate result being the dropping of a Sea king because of a
cotter pin .
People usually do not know what they in fact do not know .
But in the context I perceive of your remark - yes it is a shame
Spoke to a VERY good mate of mine ex QF engineer (did his apprentice
ship on Connies and electras )
And his son is also a QF spanner the blues around the kitchen table
on attitude and pride of work indicate that now (not as before)
get the thing back in service write it up to cover your arse but
standards appear less than say in 70/80 's Still safe but I would
suggest expediency is now higher up the list .
Perhaps time for a complete change management review to bring back
some of the old pride and culture . That will be bloody expensive
------ but can Qantas afford NOT to really bite this awful bullet .
Generation Y (why) factors are also at play here
If however ( unlikely in my view) with QF there are real problems
lets hope any whistle blower is rewarded and not as usual hung out to
dry .
This audit may be just the ticket if every one puts
ego .power, position aside and gets on fixing the situation .
I will bet a box of BOAGS that the audit WILL find significant
factors with the off shore repairers /maintainers.
One aspect of the audit not mentioned is are the standards /
benchmarks /results different in the defence aircraft worked upon by
Qantas ?
If so there is an avenue to really sniff out --the why is it so
factors .
All of the above not withstanding I have faith that only good will
come from this and the good name and good people within QANTAS are
recognized and allowed to get on with changing what ever procedures
and mind set that has bought QANTAS into what is essentially
disrepute.
