Qantas 747-300 Syd-Perth

Following on from last week's episode on my trials and tribulations on the
sunday evening flight ex Sydney at 19.20 hrs.
"She who shall be obeyed at all times" rang me fro her seat to tell me they
would be delayed 20 minutes as the Capt had announced that there were some
issues with the landing strutts that needed checking before leaving. The 20
minutes became and hour and they are now on their way.
Question, it would seem that these older 747 are having a fair few problems
these days on that route. I know of an 8 hour delay two weeks ago and
another two hour delay as well and now this.
Can't QF take the AC off the route and do a full inspection and maintenace?
Mind you, the dealy will relive the pressure at Perth around midnite!

The 'newest' 747-300 and the 'oldest' 747-400 in the
Qantas fleet are both 1989 models. I think there
is only 6 months between them!

My daughter flew to Perth in Feb booked on a 300, they towed it away from
the gate about 30 minutes before boarding and towed over a 400 from
International to do the flight, it was still showing QF6 on its acars when I
was watching it later so it had been the inbound flight from Singapore that
morning..
