"HUNDREDS of airline passengers stranded after bad weather closed
Sydney's airport were kicked to the kerb when officials closed the
building late last night, budget airline Jetstar says."
Actually, on reading the rest of the article three things become apparent
1) The airport only finally evicted the remaining passengers at 1am.
2) Passengers had been advised of the presence of a 24 hour waiting area
at the international terminal.
3) The normal closing time of the terminal is 11pm. Cityrail's online
timetable shows that there were still trains running to allow passengers
to make an easy transit to the other terminal.
So in the end, I'm not sure those final few who ended up spending a few
hours in a bus shelter have anyone to blame except themselves. If they
had taken even the most basic steps to look after their own interests
earlier, then they'd have spent the night at the international terminal
waiting area.

You're dealing with a budget airline, I'd say a lot of the passengers in the
bus shelter wouldn't have had the money to pay for the excessive train fares
between terminals, let alone fork out for hotels. With the way things are
going it'll be cheaper to fly interstate than pay the train fares betwen the
city and the airport. ...

Was that really the total amount paid, or did they add airport fees and
government charges on top?

I wish I could remember - it was when Virgin had just started. The
return fare was around $39. If there were charges, it would not have
been much - it was before they started ripping us off with the excessive
fees that they do/have done today. The was no security, credit card,
fuel levy or Ansett crap fees then.

What I do remember; the cost of getting the respective trains at each
end (return journey) was over $60 !!!!!!!
