As I mentioned recently Coop this was a normal procedure when I trained
initially and was also taught to all WW2 pilot trainees.

Precisely - very quick and *very* steeply. Mind you my instructor was well
experienced in steep dives - his previous job was driving Ju-87s for Herr
Goering. His peel off into the dive had to be experienced. 3000' IIRC.
