Lasers

There's been quite a bit of pointing of lasers at aircraft lately. The
penalties for a conviction were recently increased.
In the last few days, one was homed in on by a rescue chopper and given
the night sun treatment from low level - and address passed to police.
Another was filmed by a media chopper and address given to police.
Hopefully, there'll be some hefty penalties handed out.

Either that or an aircraft will crash leaving all crew and passengers
unharmed, but instantly killing some laser wielding fuckwit.

Unlikely. The Minister for Transport/Aviation (MarkVaile) was so pissweak
when questioned about the issue on TV last night; refused to crack down on
the issue, but rather "pleaded" with the individuals to discontinue the
mischief.

I think these actions need to be ammended to under the Terrorism Act,
where exists *REAL* penalties, not the pathetic 2 years maximum, where
they most likely end up only paying a 1K dollar fine and 12 month good
behaviour bond, its BS... The same thing happened to the chnl 7
chopper a few weekends ago at Riverfire in Brisbane, these lamers might
think its a joke, but lets see whos joking if they force a jet with 300
ppl on board to crash in inner suburbia, killing not only those 300 but
most likely being night, hundreds more...

Probably not. Even if the police have some good suspects, proof beyond
reasonable doubt is likely to be hard to come by, unless someone admits
the offence. Merely living at the right address and possessing a laser
device will not be sufficient.

If you are found, and you are identified as having used the device (by
finger print) theres enough reasonable doubt that your denial is a lie

the obvious thing to do is for the pilot to breach the LSALT, go down
as low and close to the offenders address with landing lights on (or in
case of EMS, shove the SX16 fair down their throat) and remain their
until the cops do arrive :)
