"INDEPENDENT testing of the world's first Airbus A380 commercial
service has shown the big plane is living up to the European
manufacturer's claims that it is quieter than existing jets.........

Testing by Airservices Australia at Sydney Airport showed Singapore
Airlines' A380 was between 2.3 and 6.7 decibels quieter than a Boeing
747-400 on take-off." Steve Creedy

well you'd bloody well expect it wouldnt you. considering that there
is 25 years of development work between the 747 and the A380.

the amazing thing is that the french could only get 6.7db improvement
with 25 years of work on the problem.

Inside or outside the cabin?

I personally don't care how noisy it is outside, but rather how quiet they can
get it on the inside. Trying to sleep with the constant roaring in your ears on
the overnight flights is near impossible. Although the new noise cancelling
headphones seem to do a pretty good job, I'm told.

A reduction of the airstream noise is not necessarily such a good thing,
because you'd just hear more of the babies crying and kids whining.

Earplugs don't do squat. They attenuate certain frequencies but that dull roar
that ends up giving me headaches is not suppressed. Maybe the noise cancelling
things might. I'll know when I fly next.
