Harvards Water-skiing?

I just had an email with photos of 4 Harvards apparently water-skiing on
a lake in South Africa. Anyone else seen this? Is it faked? Doesn't look
like the sort of thing I would want to try.

This topic pops up now and again. It's real, there's a video around
the place somewhere - check YouTube.

I think the footage was taken on the Hendrik Verwoered Dam, it's about 400
sq kms in size between Bloemfontein and Middelburg. I won't swear on it, but
pretty sure. I am aware of these AC skimming various lakes in ZA. The
footage is sponsored by Sasol it would seem. Sasol is Za's main Oil
producer!

the aerodynamics are actually benign. the aircraft are flying in
ground effect which makes the flying more stable.
the only real downside is the water spray on the empennage and the
possibility of water in the wheel bearings. these have no corrosion
protection beyond the grease.

looks good though.

it'll never happen in australia though. the cancer are right on to
that sort of thing in case it causes the sky to fall in ...or people
actually enjoy it.

How do they get into ground effect safely, given the difficulty of
height judgement over calm water?

GB, mate, I am not entirely sure the person (s) posting as Stealth is
actually him. I find his recent comments quite silly, inane or downright
stupid. I'd hope it is not actually him, as the person I have grown
accustomed here on this NG has always had a lot of interesting, helpful,
perhaps at times, "piquant" things to say.
