By no means complete as the onboard pages would get dialed and every
operator has some differences

Interesting. I realise the manual has been created for flight sim use but
the emergency descent procedures specify "gear down".
I wonder if this really is the case?

Seems unlikely - at cruising speed you'd loose the gear doors at least.

Gear Down Descent is an option.

the current checklist mentions nothing about a gear extend option. The
problem is not in the limiting IAS, but the mach number. The max gear extend
speed is 270IAS/M.82. The -400 cruises just above M.85 at cost index 100 and
just below at cost index 50, hence time would be wasted slowing to these
speeds at cruise. The option to lower the gear was available about 10years
ago on classic, but in the latter years , it was decided that it was better
to get to the early 20's as fast as possible, even though the overall time
to 10000'with the gear extended was a little shorter.
so the procedure is to close the thrust levers, raise the speedbrakes and
commence descent , increasing to MMO/VMO . If structural integrity is in
doubt, then you maintain current IAS.
