Coincidentally enough, I read a book over Christmas that stated this
(in fact, bought at the same time from the remaindered book shop as
"Vulcan 607") [did you go to the same bookshop as me ;) ?].

Surprising Scientific Facts, Breakthroughs, and Discoveries", John
Wiley & Sons, 1997, pp. 111-112, 160-161.
Entry 215:
"The ground beneath our feet rises and falls about 8 inches a day as
earth's surface is alternately dilated and squeezed by gravity...
Earth-deforming rhythms occur twice-daily, daily, fortnightly,
semiannually, every 8.8 years, and every 18.6 years... The timing of
geyser eruptions in Yellowstone National Park is affected by these
earth tides."
The bibliography for that entry is: John S. Rihehart, "A Guide to
Geyser Gazing", Hyper Dynamics, Sante Fe, 1976.
As well, Entry 311:
"During a full moon, earth's average global temperature is 0.03
degreees Fahrenheit warmer than under a new moon. Daily temperature
data from satellites revealed the moon's influence over the temperature
of the lower troposphere... The lunar cycle also affects precipitation,
thunderstorms, hurricanes and cloudiness. [graph included]"

I'm certainly not supporting that website, but I guess it goes to show
that, like many crackpots, there is a little science behind some of the
claims.
