More an article on eBay enforcement, but interesting for warbirders: a Wirraway sold on eBay then withdrawn is confirmed sold.

The owner was an idiot. Thinks he could put something for sale then
withdrawl after sale is complete.
Good move by the court.

This sort of thing happens all the time on Ebay. People put items up for
auction but don't have an opening bid high enough to meet their sale
requirements. So, when the item sells for way under what they wanted for
it, they pull the auction using some bullshit excuse. Or, like this fellow
they get a better offer outside of the Ebay system.

I bid on a Palm Treo last week. We win the auction. Then later on the guy
tells us that he's had to refund our dough as when he opened the box to
check the contents prior to shipping he "discovered" that the item is the
US model and won't work on Telstra's NextG network.

Now, in the advert itself he explicitly says that box has been opened to
check contents. He had a few of them on auction, all of them selling for
around the $500 mark.

While I can't prove it I suspect that the final sale price was way under
his break even point. He is a new Ebay seller so maybe he wasn't sure how
things would pan out.

Makes you wonder why they don't just put a Reserve price on things.

Didn't he have a virtual reserve on the item - a starting price of
$150,000, which was the minimum he was prepared to accept, and that one
bidder met with those conditions.

That's why it went to court.

Then his problem was he didn't put a high enough reserve. No one to blame
but himself.

No, in this case after the bid was accepted, he got a higher offer.
