Well it's at the stage that BP is gonna get the big flick as a internet
provider. Big time!!!
All this follows on from our rant in the other news group. btw.
We've already dropped them as a phone service & saved ourselves a heap of
money so its time to say goodbye.
Any thoughts on who would suitable?? We are 500Km west of Brisbane.

Let me know when and if you find one in Perth, am on iiNet, a year now, 3
routers all wetn bust and speeds of anything between 9000 kbs down and 850
kbs down on adsl2 at any given time. iiNet dont' seem to care one iota. This
service truly is a bastard. Not as bad as BigFlop though.
Has anyone experience with Amnet?
As it has been explained to me, it makes not difference what ISP one uses as
the core cabling/wiring and substations are all Telstra's, and if Telstra
don't maintain them 100%% as is often their wish, then all the other ISP fall
in a heap.

ps a good way to check your speeds is using www.speedtest.net

There was no seperate "telecom" existing alongside the PMG Dept. PMG was
the telecommunications and mail provider at the time. When the PMG ended on
July 1st I think it was, the Australian Telecommunications Commission and
Australian Postal Commission began. These were more commonly known as
Australia Post and Telecom Australia.

I'm guessing Amnet as iiNet don't own any fibre.
Note that Amcom don't offer 24 hour support. From their website
http://www.amcom.com.au/default.aspx?MenuID=29
"You can contact our Customer Care team between the hours of 6am-10pm
(WST) Weekdays, and 8am-8pm (WST) Weekends and Public Holidays ..."

as I understand it, Amnet runs some fiber in the cbd. I am aware that a
certain private hospital uses it and the are more than happy with their isp
and are more than happy with the speeds. As for the 'burbs, they would
appear, like iiNet and various others, to some extent be reliant on Telstra,
though to a lesser extent on the equipment contained in the local exchanges.

Amnet have a substantial fibre network within the CBD and to various
locations within the suburbs. As a matter of fact, I believe that iiNet
use dark fibre leased from Amnet for backhaul from many exchanges in
Perth to the iiNet data centre.
They also have their own DSLAMs in a number of exchanges. See
http://www.amcom.com.au/DSLEnabledExchanges.aspx?view=exchange for a list.
