well the movie was half correct under the way it ways made ,
technically some of the aircraft used were wrong but came close as
possible to the real thing i found.
im still shocked so many years on that the sandies and army couldnt co
ordinate a good rescap for anyone.. but it was left to the
groundpounders to extract him, kind of speaks of the threat the NVN
had.
Having recently acquired a extensibe USAF weapon munition listing i
can say the underwing tricks on sandies should of easily despatched
the NVN but obviously it couldnt.. in this case to ensure a safe SAR
was made.
i know some aircrew who were in the mission to provide CAS to him who
i met a few years back, saying it was a tricky mission as they had to
leave the poor AVRN to fend for themselves nearby while the RESCAP got
all the inbound stacked up.
so in effect to save iceal many more died.. net result was it worth..
who knows
