We know that he had a tail wind of 20 to 30 knots. You shouldn't have a
strong tail wind when trying to land an airplane.

Then why not take the ship downwind at full speed, so as to cut the
ambient wind speed over the stern landing deck?
Trying to land a helicopter over the stern of a stationary ship, or one
at a ninety...
