the original poster who suggested concrete bunkers was living in the
past.
it would be more effective to plant trees densely in a 20 mile radius.

the next war if it ever occurs will be fought out of rapidly moved
assets and with a force that can strike from a distance and come from
anywhere. just look at the way we use the lrdp's now in overseas
stuff.

bases north of the tropic of capricorn would more likely need to be
rapid deployment areas that could be staffed by guys flown in by
chopper for a repair job.
refuelling would be by tanker from the back bases.

only an idiot would leave expensive resources parked in harms way.

the gaffa is a uniquely australian tactical weapon not a hinderance.
we should be making full use of the desolation as a tactical
mechanism.

...which raises the question. why would anyone attack the north?
surely a few devastating raids on the southern capital cities would
get the merino nation into submission pretty quickly?

I fly over one of the capital cities on a regular basis and it always
amazes me how defenseless and vulnerable it always is.
