It would need a very small exposure time to give such detail to the
blades. I'm thinking some sort of fakery.

Interesting technology - my last camera was an 8mm, so that's the extent of my
exposure to cinematography :) I suppose one would have to be constantly
adjusting the sync. as the rotor RPM would vary a little when varying flight
loads were applied (droop) even given that the turbine is governed - turns,
climb/descent (pitch changes from collective and cyclic) and etc will have the
govenor "hunting" to maintain a constant RPM.

Same here - dad had a wind-up Bell & Howell standard 8mm - silent (no sound
track)
It still works, but I doubt that you could buy the film these days.
