A380 question

Author: Rob
Date: Oct 27, 2007 17:37

Why has it taken so long to deliver the A380 to SIA when it was
completed last March.

Also if you thing about it - why haven't we seen any other A380's ready
for delivery or Airbus announcements, making any further deliveries.

It still looks as if Airbus are having A380 production problems.

Acceptance *testing*.

The aircraft (MSN003) was handed over on the 15th of October.

Questions to ask yourself:

Would you fly in an aircraft straight off the assembly line?

If you were a manufacturer, would you let a customer take the
first aircraft of a completely new type without giving it the
thrice-over?

If you were an airline, wouldn't you make all efforts to ensure
that the first aircraft of a type met your requirements?

The A380 was "late" getting into the air for a number of technical
problems (e.g. incompatability between CAD system within the Airbus
group resulting in some cable looms being made too short) as well as
a restructuring of the enterprise.

The article explains some of the delays and the necessary steps in
getting a completely new aircraft into airline service. Little
things like crew training! :-)

Quite a lot more do indeed appear to have been "built".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Airbus_A380_orders

Fitouts for Singapore and Emirates are taking place. There are
probably squadrons of interior designers debating the merits of
fabric feel and durability; as well as choosing the appropriate
lighting colours so that the cabin crew's uniforms won't clash. :-)

Production capacity is scaled at about four aircraft per month in
the long term.

Me neither - and certainly didn't bother as I'd already
heard the broadcast of the interview, repeated several times
on the ABC, with the Airbus executive on the inaugural flight.

He confirmed your info Bernd, that the production target was
one per week. To be reached some time in 2008 IIRC.

I believe they stopped production temporarily some time ago while the problem
children were sorted out.

Have read in other forums that Airbus still does not have a production certificate
for the A380 therefore each one has to be certified individually. Don't know how
true this might be but the delivery schedule seems to suggest that might be the case.
