Major Duties & Functions This position will support and work with the Networking Principal Systems Engineer to meet the LAN and WAN needs of multiple Hosted Solutions environments and establishing/supporting connectivity between these environments and the organizations business partners and customers. This requires effective interaction and teaming with other members of Hosted Solutions, staff from other Telcordia organizations (including Corporate Network Engineering and Network Security), carriers and business partners. The ability to translate connectivity requirements into detailed equipment and facility requirements, associated cost estimates, network designs, addressing plans, and firewall permission specifications is essential. Hands-on ability to install, connect and configure network elements will be an increasingly important part of the job. Since Hosted Solutions provides services to paying customers on a 24/7 basis, the ability to respond quickly to new requests is important and out-of-hours activities will be required. Qualifications You Must Have The candidate must have the following skills: - TCP/IP LAN and WAN network design and configuration expertise - Ability to configure and support routers, switches, load balancers and SSL acceleration devices - Familiarity with products of Cisco (including Catalyst 6500 series, 7200 and 3700/3800 series routers, and Catalyst 4948 switches), F5 and Foundry - Familiarity with network configuration of Sun/Solaris and IBM/AIX servers - Understanding of IPSec VPN tunnel design/configuration and firewall rules - Specifying/ordering network equipment and WAN facilities - Solid verbal and written communication capabilities, including the ability to provide thorough and clear network documentation - IP address/subnet planning - Ability to translate connectivity requirements and service/performance constraints into routing designs, firewall permissions, etc. - Familiarity with use of tools for traffic analysis and capacity planning - Familiarity with SS7 design is a plus Additional Qualifications The candidate should also have training in network engineering and at least 3-5 years work experience.
