General Summary This is a Packaging Engineer position in the North American Food Service & Stockpot, R&D department. Has responsibility for understanding the packaging materials and to execute and facilitate multiple projects. This Package Engineer will work specifically on foodservice projects for our frozen soups, frozen entrees, RTE soups, and retortable soups Principal Accountabilities * 30%% - Executes multiple low risk packaging projects. Will be responsible for individual projects and will execute these projects to completion. * 20%% - Develop packaging BOMs, material specs, finished packaging specs, and distribution specs. * 15%% - Understands relationship between package, product and process. * 15%% - Work in cross functional teams with Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Purchasing, R&D, Product Development, Regulatory, Process Safety, Quality and Finance. * 10%% - Identifies and evaluate opportunities to improve material performance and costs * 5%% - Reviews quality issues and develops plans to resolve * 5%% - Writes Special Batches and TPNs Job Complexity * Trouble shooting issues that arise during line trials and package testing on low risk projects. Work directly with manufacturing personnel and cooperate R&D to troubleshoot issues and projects. * Applies the principles of data management, statistics, costs and experimental design to determine and execute a test plan. * Understanding our PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) and data management systems Education & Experience Minimum education required: Bachelor Degree Education Preferred: Bachelor of Science degree in a materials based program preferably Packaging Minimum Experience: 2 to 4 years packaging experience or related field Qualifications * Has a depth of technical expertise on more than one packaging material and processing systems. Preferred material background with corrugate, thermformed plastics, films, paperboard and cans. * Knowledge of Data Management Systems (e.g. Optiva, TOPS) is preferred. * A culinary or food manufacturing or processing background preferred * Able to write an implementation plan on a low risk project using sound technical methodology * Determine the type of testing simulating the distribution environment.
