Description: VP-Communications AutoReqId 108670BR Responsibilities . Establishes and implements global philanthropic strategies and priorities, balancing multiple customer and constituent demands, staff and financial resources. . Sets program priorities in consultation with the Executive Vice President, the President of American Express Foundation and its trustees, and other senior business leaders and in line with community needs, business strategies, and the Companys overall public/government relations objectives. . Oversees the effective management of a large number of externally visible philanthropic projects and grants in the programmatic areas of Cultural Heritage, Leadership and Community Service outside the United States. . Oversees the effective management of employee driven philanthropic programs including the annual Employee Giving Campaign and the Global Volunteer Action Fund as well as global employee volunteer programs. . Ensures full use of targeted programs to enhance the reputation of American Express, exploit business-building opportunities, manage and enhance external relationships, and support government relations objectives. . Directs extensive grants-making process to identify appropriate and relevant projects and opportunities, avoid unnecessarily controversial ones, and involve senior management in critical decision-making. . Directly handles requests and inquiries from senior managers and Board members. . Directs a program staff of one director, one manager and one associate. Required Qualifications Incumbent must have extensive experience in leading the philanthropy function - including international grantmaking -- within a corporate environment, preferably within the services sector. Incumbent must be a clear strategic thinker, with strong leadership, communications and interpersonal skills. He/she must be able to provide coaching and constructive supervision of direct reports. He/she must have the ability to coordinate, mediate, and build business consensus among competing interests within and among American Express and its business units. The incumbent must possess and communicate high ethical standards and judgment consistent with American Express values and reflective of the unique role Philanthropy plays in defining the companys image. The incumbent will regularly be in contact with governmental, industry, activists and community organizations; with American Express business partners; with senior business unit leaders worldwide; and with Corporate Headquarters staff units.
