Job description These roles are for 2009 starts only. For the Lotus division. Software Support positions offers an excellent opportunity for deep technical skills development in a variety of IBM software products. Positions will help broaden your technical skills exposure to multiple parts of the IBM business as well as leverage your leadership skills; which are needed to participate and represent support in specifications reviews of future product design, development and features. You will also develop an ability to understand problems from the customers perspective and the impact on their business. Candidates work both individually and as part of highly motivated teams to assist our customers; performing problem determination and problem source identification on our products. Debugging and analysis is performed via telephone as well as electronically Responsibilities include oversight of on going Level 2 or 3 service/maintenance, working with customers critical situations, and support for the Test, Service, Performance, Information Development and Build teams. Support roles require a combination of a strong technical foundation and a passion for customer success, excellent problem solving and analytical thinking skills as well as strong skills in customer interaction, leadership, teamwork,negotiation and communication. Familiarity with and the ability to interpret complex software problems that span multiple client and server platforms including UNIX, Linux, AIX and Windows in needed. Multilingual capabilities are a plus. Some combination of the following skills are preferred: Database knowledge and concepts Application development methodology Application Programming - C, C/C++, JAVA, Visual Basic, Lotus Script, Unix Shells TCP/IP communications, Protocol Stacks Operating systems - WINDOWS, AIX, UNIX, AS/400, s390, Linux etc. LAN/WAN networking protocols, (XPC, SPX, Appletalk, WINS) Client-Server Architecture Application Level Protocols (HTTP, SMTP, LDAP, IMAP, SSL, SMIME, XML, etc.) Operating System and Application-level debugging tools (DBX, GDB, Kernel Debuggers, Interactive Symbolic Debuggers) Performance Analysis and Management Tools & Techniques Data Analysis Tools (database queries, spreadsheets, format conversions) In-depth knowledge of OS facilities and complex troubleshooting techniques Highly complex problem solving and analytical skills required Analysis of broken code/ debugging Write code analyzing tools Root cause analysis Build test and recreate environments Makes recommendations on priorities, design changes, improvements and problem resolution Improves tools, processes and procedures Requires debugging database applications to stored procedures Requires pager duty from time to time Positions are available in a variety of locations including: Atlanta, GA; Austin TX, Raleigh NC, Littleton MA, or West Chester, PA Software may not be the first thing you think about when you think IBM, but thats probably because we spend more time developing great products than bragging about them.
