The purpose of the Surgical Liaison (SL) Team is to enhance the medical and marketing department efforts by creating awareness, as well as establishing and developing important relationships with key external customers. These customers are important by virtue of their influence within the academic and surgical communities, institutional setting, and/or because of their standing as a speaker or publisher. The SL’s are responsible for developing, coordinating and insuring the implementation of corporate, scientific and clinical strategies. The SL Team has an overall objective to increase awareness of products while contributing to an enhanced corporate image for client.
PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Within a defined geographic territory, SLs identify, gain access to, provide medical information to, and determine additional needs of their key opinion leaders and key stakeholders. SLs will serve as a general resource for their opinion leader in an effort to establish a strong and productive partnership.
PRIMARY POSITION OBJECTIVES
· Identify Key Opinion Leaders (KOL’s) and develop and maintain relationships to build awareness and advocacy.
· Act as primary liaison to investigators interested in developing investigator driven research proposals in support of corporate objectives
· Provide product advocacy through literature searches, slide creation, presentations to various external customers.
· Support key strategies, launch new products and support key congresses and publications working with the Corporate Medical Team.
· Serve as primary Medical Affairs contact with key academic and community based medical centers coordinating with Regional Managers and Sales Representatives to help identify potential key medical leaders within specific surgical disciplines
· Partner with medical education representatives to support development of programs and products that meet customer objectives and issues.
· Participate in training of sales team members.
· Create education and presentation materials for internal and external use.
· Provide scientific support at conferences and meetings.
INFLUENCE OF POSITION
The SL position interacts with numerous internal and external customers. Examples include:
· Surgeons, O.R. staff (e.g. nurses, PA, OR tech) and other physicians and pharmacists in clinical, academic and institutional settings. · Client Medical Department · Client Marketing Department · Client Sales Management Department · TMAC Management and Administrative Departments
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY
· Minimum Bachelor Degree and licensed healthcare professional. (PA, RN, MSN, NP or MD) · Three years hospital/institutional experience (Surgical/OR setting) required · Pharmaceutical or Medical Device industry experience (sales, medical information, clinical research, medical liaison) preferred · Ability to independently gain access to surgeons and consequently establish and maintain professional relationships · Knowledge of the various hospital departments and their functions · Excellent organizational skills · Excellent communication (written, oral, and presentation) and Leadership skills · Ability to work as part of a team · Business acumen · Ability to travel up to 80%% depending on geographic location
