More information about this job Overview The Supervisor of the Pearl and Color Laboratory is responsible for maintaining the flow and organization of work into and out of the Pearl and Color Grading lab. Effectively managing lab output to ensure that Tiffany & Co. gemological standards are met. The supervisor should be proficient in gemology to assist and guide the graders. Establish productivity levels and make sure they are achieved. Ensure data integrity is maintained. Participation in recruitment and training on Tiffany & Co. gemological, business and system standards and procedures as well as the ongoing coaching and development of staff will be the responsibility of the Supervisor as well as process improvement, corrective and preventative action development and productivity reporting to the Pearl and Color management
Responsibilities This individual will make certain that all Grading staff are fully trained in the operation of all laboratory grading equipment and make sure they are prepared to apply Tiffany & Co. gemological and business standards, processes to all species and varieties of Pearl and Color while following defined procedures associated with this function. He/She will also keep abreast of industry enhancements and partner with management to update Tiffany quality parameters as needed. This individual will provide gemological and technical support based on business needs. This will involve the accuracy of Gem data and enhancements captured in JDE (supplemental), Geme Wizard, external and internal lab certification (AGTA/GIA/other) in addition to gemological and administrative. Along with the review of all Pearl and Colored stones submitted for purchase to Tiffany & Co. this individual will communicate effectively with the Mgrs. in Pearl and Color on gemological quality issues, productivity and compliance, communicate effectively with the Planning and Operations Mgr. on grading capacity constraints in grading and keep mangers in Pearl and Color informed and ensure that all operational processes are documented, maintained and followed. He/She will also work with Managers in Pearl, Color, Operations and coordinators in Repair and Customer Design to understand the gemological needs and distribute work according to shifting business needs and priorities to ensure consistent tracking of and flow of feedback between all areas. This individual will partner with Mgrs., Asst Mgrs. and coordinators to analyze daily Grading, outputs in order to improve productivity levels, maintain standards and align employee performances with organizational goals. Additional responsibilites include collaborating with manager on performance meetings and ongoing coaching conversations with grading staff as well as review feedback and quality issues, create and present performance reports based on both quality and quantity. Lastly, this individual will participate in corrective action and process improvement projects, provide assistance in gemological related projects as needed and participate in ensuring that all safety measures and guidelines are adhered to throughout Pearl and Color Gemological Lab.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will have a Graduate Gemologist with at least 2 years of Industry Gemstone Experience. They will also need 2-3 years previous supervisory and industry experience, excellent computer skills utilizing J. D. Edwards, Excel and Word programs, excellent interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal skills, as well ascreative and analytical skills This individual must comply with all company policies and procedures regarding: Safety; Confidentiality; Security; Attendance; Proper Attire and must be flexible and willing to change responsibilities within the department/ division. This individual must work well with colleagues in a team environment. Operational knowledge of; Microscope/ Loupe; Leverage Gauge; namic team environment is preferred.
