None Location New York, NY %% Travel Relocation No Requirements We are seeking a skilled professional with proven success in performing economic and financial analysis of utility cost of service, power plant investment plans, and in negotiating power purchase agreements. Understanding of and experience in applying life cycle cost principles, power plant systems and performance studies, power project development, and understanding of power markets in New York state and Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Maryland are also desired. Evidence of industry-wide recognition and visibility is also essential. As member of the technical staff, the candidate should have experience in applying and using recognized power system planning models (such as Market Power and Promod, or other market price forecasting tools, including working with forward prices, plant dispatching an bidding into competitive wholesale markets, applying principles of cost of service in allocating costs to large power clients, screening and evaluating various power plant development projects, tracking wholesale power market trends and implications for power plant dispatch, gauging and recommending energy purchase agreements for power purchases including the use of hedge strategies. Being able to lead and negotiate power purchase agreements is also expected. Primary duties and responsibilities: . Evaluating power supplier cost of service studies and filings in terms of fixed and variable costs . Issuing bids and RFPs for long-term and short-term power supply and evaluating bids including discerning the transmission interconnection issues and implications . Screening and evaluating new power plant investment project options and tolling agreements . Helping clients negotiate power contracts . Tracking and monitoring market dynamics and implications for hedging and energy supply portfolio management . Applying and using the results of forward pricing models, plant dispatch and valuation in competitive wholesale markets . Advising clients on negotiating new power supply agreements . Completing due diligence studies of power plant dispatch strategies, revenues and margin, leading to asset valuation of existing power plants . Advising on the appropriateness of deploying various risk management methods for the primary energy used in power plants or distributed generation facilities . Evaluating the life cycle cost, and interconnection issues of distributed, green energy resources purchases, or renewable credits and carbon offsets . Experience testifying in regulatory matters using and pertaining to the above information . Experience performing economic and financial analysis of utility and energy systems, including load forecasts, pricing, cost of service analysis, generation procurement options, anti-trust analysis and profitability studies.
Moderate travel and work at client sites will be expected. Demonstrated ability to work with diverse teams is essential. Prior experience working in the PJM and NY ISO markets is of particular interest as is working with major energy using and buying accounts in the Northeast is desired. Required Skills: Education: BA in economics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, is preferred. An MBA or additional post-graduate study desired. 10+ years related experience performing economic analysis in the utility/energy industry is required. Critical skills required: The ability to integrate electric market dynamics, to power plant valuation/dispatching, fuel procurement, and risk management along with being able to negotiate power purchase agreements is of utmost importance. Prior experience either working at utilities, power plant developers, consulting companies and advising large power requirement wholesale or end users clients is essential.
