The Role An exciting opportunity exists for a Computer Room Operator to work in a highly creative, dynamic and innovative team environment. The team works closely with various groups including system (Unix & NT) administration, application development, and network design. Our group designs, implements, and supports procedures on different hardware platforms that make up the Bloomberg Computer environment. Team members are also be involved in special projects such as designing, testing, and implementing processes that the operations staff requires. Coverage Hours 8:00PM-5:00AM Monday-Friday Qualifications * At least 4 years of experience as a computer operator * Knowledge of Unix commands * Ability to write and understand Unix scripts * Knowledge of Perl, Python, or tcltk is a plus * Ability to comprehend operator console messages and react accordingly * Good written and verbal communication skills; communicating via e-mail, phone, and in person in a clear and concise manner * Ability to document both completed tasks and all problems encountered on the shift * Ability to work modified shifts and/or overtime as needed or required * Must be detailed-oriented, remain focused on tasks, and follow documented instructions * Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as in a team environment, communicating regularly with team and across teams * Excellent time-management and organizational skills * Ability to multi-task
