Description: Position Details: Senior Engineer for Substation Projects Location: New York, New York Openings: 1 Salary Range: Description: Qualifications:Our client seeks a highly motivated candidate (Engineer/Senior Engineer) who demonstrates a strong commitment to excellence and understands the vital importance of personal accountability with an ability to render good business decisions. Requires strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact with employees in substation, Corporate Staff, contractors and various levels of management. He/she must be able to manage internal support organization personnel and outside vendors that support the implementation of an assigned project, and must respond as required to last-minute requests for hands-on, on-site technical guidance during construction and operational activities. Selected candidate must have good project management skills with a demonstrated record in implementing multi-discipline projects. Requires computer proficiency to include MS Office. Requires a Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. Requires knowledge of Substation communications systems, AC and DC circuits associated with substation switchgear, and some experience with software application and development. Senior Engineer requires 8 years of related experience in the engineering and operation of electrical measurements associated with control systems used in high voltage substations. Engineer requires 3 years of related experience as noted above. Associate Engineer requires at least 1year of related engineering experience. Responsibilities:The Engineer/Senior Engineer will provide technical support to implement ongoing projects such as the installation of Verizon fiber into high voltage substations. This individual’s responsibility will encompass broad assignments such as Substation Digital Upgrade and also capital projects associated with revenue metering upgrades. The successful candidate will coordinate engineering activities with Substation Operations, ECB, Construction Management, and Verizon technicians to ensure that the fiber and Digital Upgrade project is completed successfully. The Engineer/Senior Engineer will continually work to improve substation feeder reliability and performance through communication line upgrades and digital upgrades of protective relay circuits. The Engineer/Senior Engineer will ensure that the long term goal of the capital project is successfully implemented and that the project is completed within the budget. He/she prepares appropriations and project-scoping documents and ensures that they are in accordance with Central Engineering processes and procedures as well as documented in Project Explorer. The individual will participate in engineering design review meetings and manage outside vendor design efforts. He/she will ensure that all engineering packages are complete and specify the appropriate start-up testing. Acting as liaison between the substation and Company departments and with Verizon. The Engineer/Senior Engineer will have to coordinate I&C and Substation Operations resources to determine the best installation and for the efficient migration of upgraded protection circuits to fiber optic facilities.
