Who You Are: The Picture Desk acts as the hub of the live photo wire service function of the editorial division serving daily newspapers, magazines, broadcast clients, online news sites, and the gamut of Getty Images various other clients 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. Picture Editors are responsible for receiving, editing, and distributing a constant stream of news, sport, and entertainment content in a time sensitive deadline manner to a global client base and uploading to the editorial website. In addition to possessing a strong understanding of news, sport, and entertainment, the position also requires keen picture judgment, advanced level knowledge and experience with industry standard editing tools, and a keen understanding of editorial integrity issues. Strong Photoshop skills are mandatory and used for proper enhancement of digital image files such as; color correction, sharpening, cropping, and digital noise reduction. 2-4 years of experience within the editorial photography industry. The position typically reports to the Picture Desk Manager. Your Next Challenge: * Edits incoming feed to select most relevant and newsworthy images from each event for all levels of live wire service (global and regional). * Edits additional images as required for other commitments (wider selection for Entertainment clients, specific images requested by clients, etc). * Selects and changes thumbnails on the event after the first images have been uploaded. * Assigns routing information to designate where an image is sent.a * Prioritizes images according to relevancy and deadlines * Reviews and corrects caption text and IPTC fields of live images to conform to Getty Images guidelines; searches Internet for information or translation if necessary; add any relevant details. * Identifies, and expedites editing process accordingly, the strongest pictures within large sets of imagery.a * Stays informed and well read on current events on current global news, sport, and entertainment events and makes appropriate editorial judgment decisions. * Performs site updates: monitors Getty Images editorial website and executes updates, error corrections, thumbnail changes, and featured story links throughout shift as warranted. * Runs system diagnostics to ensure all pictures are properly publishing on website. * Creates new events for any incoming material that is not yet assigned to one.What Youll Need: * Ability to identify the strongest pictures within large sets of images * Ability to multi-task and maintain thorough attention to detail * Patience and diplomacy in pressure situations * Excellent writing skills, spelling and grammar * Maintain accuracy and efficiency in fast-paced environment * Ability to prioritize heavy workload and meet strict client deadlines in a global environment * Excellent verbal communication skills and interpersonal skillsWhat Youll Need: * Works well in a team environment * Focused and principled with a strong sense of editorial integrity and journalism ethics * Self motivated and reliable * Flexible and organized * Must be comfortable with working unusual shift hours and patterns, including evenings, weekends and holidays Who We Are: Getty Images is the worlds leading creator and distributor of visual content and the first place creative professionals turn to discover, purchase and manage imagery.
