More information about this job: Overview: KIPP NYC is the family of all KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) programming in New York City and includes four KIPP public middle schools (KIPP Academy, KIPP STAR, KIPP AMP, and KIPP Infinity) designed to teach students to develop the academic and character skills necessary for success in high school and college, to be self-sufficient in the competitive world beyond, and to build a better tomorrow for themselves and us all (www.kippnyc.org).

Responsibilities: • Demonstrate a relentless drive to improve the minds and lives of their students in and out of school. • Implement and enhance the school's systems and culture. • Provide consistent rewards and/or consequences for student behavior to ensure that students observe the school's core values, high expectations, and strict code of conduct. • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues. • Respond to family concerns promptly and effectively. • Commit to professional growth. • Participate actively in department meetings, faculty meetings, and other meetings. • Share responsibility for grade-level and school-wide activities. • Provide direct services to the school community, including: o Identifying and training others to identify students and family members who may benefit from regular one-on-one counseling or group counseling. o Providing regular one-on-one counseling or group counseling to students and families. o Providing crisis intervention as needed. • Manage all aspects of the referral process for social services and special education services, including: o Conducting regular assessments of current and emerging student and family needs. o Using needs-assessments to identify and cultivate internal and external resources and services. o Referring individuals and families to external resources and services. o Monitoring and facilitating the delivery of external resources and services. o Evaluating impact and quality of external resources and services. o Administering records, documentation, and other compliance activities. • Design and coordinate family-engagement and family-education activities, including: o Home visits for newly enrolled and current students, as appropriate. o Workshops to educate families, staff, and/or students on specific issues. o Pot Lucks, Family Nights, and other community-building events.

Qualifications: • Zest, grit, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor :). • A passion for being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven school culture. • Documented track record of personal and professional success. • Experience working with adolescents and/or young families in traditionally underserved communities preferred. • New York State licensure preferred. • MSW or Master's degree in counseling-related discipline.
